Library directors fostering public library service in Northeastern New York

Welcome to the CEF Libraries Sharing Site

Tour of Plattsburgh Public LibraryTour of Plattsburgh Public LibraryThis site is a place for CEF Library Directors and CEF Library System Staff to share ideas, problems and solutions. Because it requires logging in, it should be a safe place to air frustrations, within reason. We also hope to build up a knowledge base that will help both new and experienced directors as they strive to do all the things a library needs to thrive!

Special Collection Finding Tool Form

Use this form to identify a special collection of your library and offer specific information about the collection. The goal of this description is to lead people to the collection and let them know how the collection is useful or of special interest. When you submit this form, it will be reviewed by CEFLS and added to the library catalog. Try to make it as clear and concise as possible.

Invoice for billing libraries (or anyone) for lost items

Michael S. provided an excel template that we use for invoices that I am going to attach here.  You can see if it would work for you.  You could save it on your computer and then just modify it for your own use. - Betsy B

Media Contacts for PR

A while back, I asked for help from the CEFDA listserve to compile a list of good places to get media coverage in our area for library events.  A number of people sent suggestions, and I made a spreadsheet compiling them.  It's not an elegant spreadsheet by any means, but I thought it might be useful, so I'm going to attach it here (you'll need to be logged in to see it).

Research on the Web

"Doing research on the Web is like using a library assembled piecemeal by pack rats and vandalized nightly." Reger Ebert. This response is for those who say, "Why do we need libraries? We can get all the information we need on the Internet."
Stan Ransom

Net Borrowers and Net Lenders

Here's an interesting report for the first 6 months of 2009 to show the flow of materials between our automated libraries. Several people have asked me for information about this, and I was playing with how to present it. I ended up with 2 bar charts showing how many items were received and provided by each library. Check out the PDF attachments to this post for details.

Who is a net lender?

Akwesasne, CEF, Champlain, Dannemora, Keeseville, Keene Valley, Lake Placid, Malone, Rouses Point, Ticonderoga, Westport, and Willsboro.

Everyone else is a net borrower!
